Timothy Cahn - President and Legal General Counsel
Originally from Pennsylvania, Director Tim Cahn came to San Francisco in 1991 to practice law and to enjoy all the natural wonders of the Bay Area. He practiced intellectual property law for over twenty years, was a partner at the 600-lawyer firm of Kilpatrick Townsend and Stockton, and co-chaired that firm’s Copyright Practice. Tim was recognized nationally for his pro bono legal work on behalf of LGBTQ clients, immigrants seeking political asylum, and persons living with HIV. “Attorneys are licensed by the State and as such are committed to serving the public good,” reflects Tim. “It has always been an essential part of my law practice to try to do what I can to help those whose basic civic rights are being threatened.”
Currently, Tim is an adjunct law professor at Golden Gate University Law School, where he teaches Trademark Law and is an Assistant Director of the Intellectual Property and Privacy Law Center. For many years, Tim has served as a Director of various non-profit organizations whose charitable concerns encompass educational, environmental, religious, and LGBTQ advocacy concerns. “My service on ISCA’s Board,” Tim remarks, “has become the centerpiece of my public advocacy and engagement. The opportunity to give back to the communities we care about, and to support those who are advocating on behalf of those in need is an honor.”
