Charles Babcock

Charles Babcock is a retired newspaperman and technology journalist. He is the former editor-at-large for InformationWeek, technology editor for Computerworld and editor-in-chief of Digital News. In 2009, he was the author of an early book on cloud computing, The Cloud Revolution, published by McGraw-Hill. He grew up in Upstate New York and earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and American Studies at Syracuse University. He has two children and three grandchildren and resides in the Inner Sunset district of San Francisco. When he and his wife, Kathy, are not roaming the Inner Sunset or visiting grandkids, they can be found hiking the trails of Point Reyes, Redwood Basin or Yosemite. He also a sailing enthusiast and occasionally goes where the wind blows his 25-foot sloop the waters of the bay. “This board (ISCA) is in a unique position during troubled times. We have a chance to say ‘we care’ to the people who are too often dismissed, disrespected or downtrodden.” What’s especially rewarding is supporting organizations like Urban Trailblazers, “people who are able to reach out and work with youth who may be the leaders of the next generation,” he said.
Charles Babcock on Grant Blazes New Trail For Middle School Students. In the newsletter of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy newsletter, Gateways, in the fall of 2017, it explained how ISCA’s first three-year grant would be used to establish a pipeline from an inner city San Francisco middle school to the summer environmental program at Crissy Field.
